Uverworld Vs L’Arc~en~Ciel

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on May 31, 2007 by mdjasrie

Both Uverworld and L’Arc~en~Ciel released their latest single on the 30th May 2007. Uverworld released “endscape” which is also the opening of Toward the Terra, a latest anime to hit the TV networks which happens to be an adaptation of the mange created in the late 1970s. L’Arc~en~Ciel on the other hand released “Seventh Heaven”.

~Uverworld~

When I first previewed the anime, i wasnt sure whether it was uverworld contributing to the song or not. It sounded a little different from the other works or albums that they have done. But my speculation ended when i saw their names and i was right that it was actually featured in Toward the Terra.

Their latest single is fast and upbeat, almost like a dancing beat to it. Compared to thier previous album, “Awake”. I find that the latest song is less dark and gothic in feeling. Its almost refreshing to see the band trying for something lighter once in a while, forgoing their gothic looks that people’s perceptions have on them, compared to the dark and ominous tones of Jojoushi. I quickly begin to like the song after a couple of hearing. Still this single is not what ive been waiting for. Im still waiting for “Shine” to be released, the opening to Seirei no Moribito.

So which single will most likely reach the number 1 in the Oricon Single Sales chart next week? In my opinion, i think its a pretty close fight, but i would definitely put my bets on L’Arc~en~Ciel. If i were to compare Uverworld’s past works, like “D-technolife”, “Colors of the Heart” and “Charmant No Ura”, then this single would not be their best this time round. However, their latest album, Bugright, is really good and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Its those album where you can turn the volume to the mix, and just let go of yourself with all the stresses of daily life. For now we will just have to wait and see.

Playground fun!

This image was taken in Brussels by Kevin Cazabon.

I tend to agree what the guy said here. Either there was something wrong with my childhood experiences, or playgrounds, particularly in Belgium have gone beyond the boundaries of fun.

How I wish i could be an innocent kid once again…

Heroes Season 1 on DVD

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on May 30, 2007 by mdjasrie

The last episode (and somewhat lackluster) of Heroes aired about a couple of weeks ago and thus completing the hugely successful TV series. Soon it would be available on DVD and you can watch it at the comforts of your own home.

Overall the series is one of the best series ive watched so far. Never have i watched the first episode and be totally absorbed by the plot, intrigue, the excitement and ultra interesting myriad of characters introduced throughout the season. Never have i seen such diverse cast and they really played their well. Although the last episode was somewhat mild compared to the anticipated climatic ending, this series is till worth a second or a third run through the entire series.

A seven DVD set will be release on August 28 with a slew of additional contents that would surely be a best buy for any fan of Heroes.

  • Unaired Pilot: The Tim Kring Cut with Audio Commentary – A full 73 uninterrupted minutes of the original, unaired, extended pilot episode, as Heroes’ creator Tim Kring first envisioned it, with a character never seen.
  • The Making of Heroes – From concept to pop culture phenomenon, a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest new series on television
  • Special Effects – The secrets behind the eye-popping visuals that give the Heroes their amazing powers.
  • The Stunts – A back stage look at the show’s hair-raising stunts.
  • Mind Reader – Matt Parkman’s mind reading abilities reveal your inner Hero with a series of simple tests.
  • Profile of Artist Tim Sale – A look at the Eisner Award-winning comic book artist (Spiderman, Batman, Daredevil) behind much of the Manga-influenced artwork used in the show.
  • The Score – Go behind the scenes with Wendy Melvin and Lisa Coleman (of Prince’s The Revolution) as they create their ASCAP Award-winning musical score.
  • 50 Deleted and Extended Scenes

The series will also be released on HD-DVD on the same date as the DVD release. It’s for those who have a HD player and who wants to enjoy full unadulterated 1080 goodness (which sure looks gorgeous on Claire Benette when doing closeup shots of her) and cinematic surround sound.

Abingdon Boys School

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on May 30, 2007 by mdjasrie

Abingdon Boys School, a relatively new Japanese Rock Band which made their official debut on September 3 2006, which was just barely a year, is slowly rising the ranks of fame.

Their first single “Innocent Sorrow” was released and was used as an opening theme for D.Gray Man a relatively popular manga and anime series in Japan currently. It was then my first time hearing the band and i kinda liked it. It has a unique flavor and their vocals were none like Uverworld, or L’arc-en-ciel.

Very catchy in essence and it has the core spirit of a rock band.

Opening of D.Gray Man:

In actual fact, i didnt really paid much attention to the band till i noticed that they were featured in another anime series, “Darker than Black” At that time, i was mixed up with another band that had similar vocal (or so i thought initially) called “Nightmare”

I did further research and soon found out that Darker than Black’s opening song was done by Abingdon Boys School also, entitled “Howling”.

Darker than Black was one of the more anticipated anime series of the season this year, though i have to determine if it really lived up to the hyped. Ive only watched a couple of episodes. Looks intriguing but the plot is still very much cryptic.

Riyo Mori from Japan crowned Miss Universe 2007

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on May 29, 2007 by mdjasrie

Riyo Mori from Japan was crowned Miss Universe 2007, at the 56th annual Miss Universe Pageant. Held in Mexico City, Mori, 20 years old was given the US$250 000 diamond and pearl crown by last year’s winner, Zuleyka Rivera of Puerto Rico, watched by a live audience of 10,000 and some 600 million television viewers worldwide.

A lifelong ballet dancer from a village near Mount Fuji, Mori wore a striking black gown with coloured lapels for the final. Winning surpassed the ambition of her grandmother, who told her as a child she wanted her to be Miss Japan one day.

“My mind went blank,” she said of the winning moment.

Isnt she pretty?!

Japan has won 2 times in the history of the Miss Universe Pageant event. The last time Japan won was in 1959, almost 50 years ago, by Akiko Kojima

She was also the first person to originate from Asia to win the coveted title.

I knew there was something special in Japanese women! What great timing, since im going to Japan this week, will I be able to see her in public? Ill cross my fingers on this one…

Dirty cars… Extremely dirty cars outside and inside.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on May 29, 2007 by mdjasrie

To us Singaporeans, buying a car is a huge investment. With the price of COE amounting to tens of thousands of dollars, on top of the price of the car (making out country the most expensive place to buy a car), with ERP, road tax, car insurance rising fuel prices, we singaporeans generally treat our cars with pride and dignity.

Not so for these bunch of people:

Left over packaging, food, plastic bags with god knows what… i pray i never see something like that on the streets of singapore, and i would certainly never do that if i get a car on my own one day.

unfortunately, theres more, and if you wanna see it, click here.

Pirates of The Caribbean 3: At World’s End personal review.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on May 28, 2007 by mdjasrie

Just got back from a digital screening of the movie at The Cathay. Overall the day was enjoyable. I managed to hangout with my bestest buddies (9 of em altogether) and we had lots of fun.

As for the movie, it was almost the total opposite. The movie itself has recieved some mixed reviews, and it is clearly evident that there are two distinct group of people. One group who hated the movie, and another, who liked the movie. Unfortunately, i would be with the group that hated the movie.

To put it briefly, i dont really like the movie because of several issues. The first being the overly complicated, saturated never ending plot of betrayal, backstabbing and deceit between the characters in the movie. As you watch, and the movie progresses, you will realised that each of the characters has their own agenda and its tough to remember and keep track on who is on which side as they not only seed lies and deceit, they also change alliances real quickly and sometimes its not clear what the true motives or intentions are.

Secondly, i find it hard to follow their dialogue. I dunno if it was just me, but there are certain parts of the movie where the dialogues gets so muddles, you barely understand what they say in the end. One good example is the case of Tia Dalma. Her dialogues and conversations were at the very least cryptic. If only they would speak louder or in a much more clearer accent, while at the same time maintaining a piratey accent, i wouldnt mind at all. I think this is one of the very few movies that i would personally require an english subtitle, for an english movie. Furthermore, i find the dialogs bland and uninteresting.

The movie would have been much better, if the plot is simplified, while at the same time interesting to last the entire movie. I dont see the need to have such complicated storylines and even if it is necessary i am very sure it could have been done in a more understandable approach.

Clocking at almost 3 hours, the real action begins towards the end. There were interesting action and climatic scenes in between, but they are often short bursts of action. But the redeeming factor is firstly the movie is long and is somewhat worth your money, and secondly, the special effects are pretty fantastic.

Overall, its just an ok movie, if you can endure the 3 hour movie and secondly just go for the heck of seeing the somewhat hilarious Captain Jack Sparrow.
