Say goodbye to concession rates!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on July 31, 2007 by mdjasrie

I’ve been travelling the MRT using concession. Im a heavy MRT user and its a steal travelling the MRT, using up all the 4 rides for the day, travelling anyway i want. I usually save alot on travelling when im using the monthly concession rates. Its even a bargain now that im working, often times requiring me to work in town or some other far off places where i live. But that is all about to end as the concession rates no longer applies from August onwards.

I was shocked when i noticed that there were no options to pay for the monthly concession at the ticketing counter. At first i thought that there was a malfunction in the machine but i then realised that it the tertiary student concession rates has to end someday, since its been a while since my I finished school.

So now i have to bear the full travelling costs when im off to work or some other destinations while on the mrt. This would certainly increase my spending, spending costs that werent factored in. Ive yet to get my pay for this month’s work, about 700 bucks if im not wrong. A small sum, but more than enough for me at this moment. Its not bad considering ive only work 2 or 3 days a week for the past month. And thats excluding commisions i get from the sale of the phones. I dont know what the final figure is, but im grateful for the extra cash.

Base Ball Bear’s 5th Single out!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on July 30, 2007 by mdjasrie

Well it was out for a couple of weeks already, but i havent been really following the releases recently. I dont really know much about the band itself, but I kinda like their vibe when i listened to the opening song (by them) from Ookiku Furikabutte, and I thought it was pretty good.

So having heard thier latest single, Manatsu no Joken, I really like it! It has a pretty old school rock vibe to their song and i didnt expect the song to be this noisy and loud. Ill definitely keep an eye out for this band.

You can preview the song here.

Catherine Tate comedy.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on July 30, 2007 by mdjasrie

Ever since a friend of mine, Angeline recommended me a bunch of humorous comedy from Britain, i just couldnt stop finding more clips of Catherine Tate.

Catherine Tate is a British comedian and actress. Her humorous comedy sketches were nothing short of extreme laughter when i first watched it on youtube. There are a many clips out there but i can show you 2 of my favourites.

The first one is Catherine Tate as a translator, translating to 7 different languages. I cant recall when was the last time I actually laughed that loud when watching a video clip.

The second one is a series of comedy sketches, with Catherine Tate portraying a school student together with 2 of her friends.

I just love the way she said, “Am I bovvered? Look at my face. AM I BOVVERED!?” “Issit?” “All Right” and among others.

1st month.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on July 27, 2007 by mdjasrie

Its been a month since i started working in this company, promoting handphones. So far its been a pleasant experience and im quite surprised that at times i actually enjoyed working as a promoter despite its long hours. Im only working as part time, just to pass my time, while waiting for NS. Throughout the month, the most rewarding experience was to be able to make new friends.

Ive met numerous other promoters and its been great working with them. Not only that, the respective telecom company’s promoters, especially in roadshows are great to be with. While not promoting the phones to customers, its great chatting with them and getting to know each other. Its quite surprising to meet a myriad of people outside my comfort zone, people with different backgrounds and despite what little work experience i have, i enjoy thier company when there’s no customers to promote the phones to.

The working hours can be very long, and standing up without rests (except for meal breaks) can really be extremely tiring. But ive become accustomed to the rigors of the work requirements and my legs arent that aching anymore. Ive also discovered something about myself too. I think im the kind of person who has to talk to someone, regardless of who they are. If I were stranded on an island alone for long periods, i think i would go mad. Perhaps the need for social interaction is very important to me to keep me sane. With that in mind, i think that is one of the reasons why i kinda like this job. Human interaction has kept me busy and has made me become a more sociable person. With all my friends on to their next stage of life (school, NS etc.) having new people to talk with have been a great way to make up for the silence that i have endured before i started on this job.

If i had more time to spent on this job, i wouldnt mind at all. But alas, i dont wanna delay my NS and i just wanna suck it up, grit my teeth and get through with it.

Anyway, past few days ive had a minor bout of flu. I’ve been recovering but i hope that nothing serious would manifest in the long run (years ahead), for reasons i shall not say. So hopefully everything is alright and there is no cause for alarm and everything was just a coincidence. Tomorrow i still have to work. Ive been working since wednesday, at a roadshow. Tomorrow would be my last day there for the week. Im free on the weekends!

Paprika opens tomorrow in Singapore, Brave Story on 16th August.

Wow! I totally missed this! But i just read in the news that Cathay will be showcasing another big hit anime sensation to the big screen. Its none other than Paprika.

A film by Satoshi Kon, who not only made Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers, but also the surreal and eerie Paranoia Agent

Susumu Hirasawa also teams up with Satoshi Kon to create the soundtrack for Paprika as he had done for Paranoia Agent, filling the sounds full of electric and surreal melodies.

Ive watched this before, and although i prefer “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” better than Paprika in terms of storyline, Paprika has excellent animation and visuals, none that I’ve ever seen in most other animations out there. Those who intend to watch should be delighted to know that they would be in for a treat. The film itself has garnered several critical acclaim in terms of the quality of the animation that could rival western animation studios. Already, this film has been selected to a few film festival as an opening film. The only complain i have personally is that it takes time for one to understand the story as it can get a little complex. But fret not, regardless, its a good film to watch for anime fans out there. The trailer can be found on Sony’s Official Movie Page.

Adding another anime title coming to Singapore’s shores and to the delight of anime fans here, Brave Story, a film done by GONZO will be coming on August 16th. Again, Cathay ( I love you!!) will be bringing it their theaters.

I dont really know much about brave story, as i only first watched the trailer at Cathay Cineleisure last week while waiting to watch Harry Potter. I heard of it, but was unaware of what the story is all about. According to Animenewsnetwork:

When 10 year old Wataru’s father leaves home and his mother is taken ill to hospital, he decides to change his fate by travelling through the door shown to him by his friend Mitsuru. In a land of magic and monsters, Wataru must summon all his courage and embark on a journey with several comrades to meet the Goddess of Destiny and change this “mistaken fate”.”

You can watch the trailer here:

So that does then. Anime lovers, mark your calenders, call up like minded peeps such as yourself and start planning to watch!

Adverts… at all the wrong places.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on July 18, 2007 by mdjasrie

Was surfing around the web when i stumbled upon oddee.com and it just made my day.

You’ve always known that ads, be it on the TV, film, posters or just anywhere else can be a powerful marketing campaign for a product or service. But just look at these adverts and more  when they are placed at the wrong places!

I dont recall Yanni being that sexy. Maybe just his moustache, but i cant be too sure about that.

Those two ads could potentially complement each other, but definitely not in that way.

Oh the irony!

Garbage-flavoured ice-cream anyone? that girl certainly loves it.

Utada Goodness!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on July 16, 2007 by mdjasrie

As youve noticed, Utada Hikaru will be contributing a song from the upcoming Kiss&Cry single for “Rebuild of Evangelion” Movie. “Beautiful World” will be the opening theme for the movie. Meanwhile the exclusive trailer for the movie will feature another of Utada’s remakes, “Fly Me to the Moon”, which will also be included in the upcoming single, due to release 29th August. The movie one the other hand will be shown in theaters on September 1st.

Here’s the Trailer

You can listen to the preview of “Beautiful World” here.

And a youtube video showcasing the songs that would be in the upcoming single.

So whats my opinion on the songs so far? I love “Beautiful World”. Add to the fact that its tied to a mega big hit that kinda rocked the anime scene, which was the Evangelion franchise, i can already imagine the beautiful opening sequence tied to this beautiful song. The song sounded a little spiritual, while at the same time electric, contemporary and upbeat, which has more or less been the trademark of Utada, ever since her latest Ultra Blue album. As for “Fly me to the Moon”, the remake is fantastic, showcasing how she has matured with her now even more powerful vocals as before. The song reminds me of “Automatic“, her debut single almost 10 years ago.

Abingdon Boys School, Nephilim single out!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on July 16, 2007 by mdjasrie

Sorry if im a little “wols”, but Abingdon Boys School’s latest single, Nephilim was out on the fourth of july. And it couldnt come at a better timing when the band performed during Live Earth, with billions of potential viewers. Ive watched their performance on Live Earth, and it was quite good actually. Love their hard rock stance in their music, which makes their promotional videos somewhat lackluster. Unfortunately though, the single manged to snag the 5 th spot on the Oricon Charts on its release week, compared to 4th spot which they achieved for “Howling”. I still prefer Howling though than the latest one, but nonetheless, its a good rock song.
