My little sanctuary. Needs more improvement!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on March 23, 2008 by mdjasrie

So with the new computer that i bought 4 months back and the PS3 3 months later, i realised that my computer table is a little tad small. The table was bought during Chinese New Year, the time where you would usually do spring cleaning, which in this case involves buying a new computer table. (The previous one was horrendous)

So i wanted something small and simple. I didnt want to spent too much on a piece of furniture, so long as everything computer related would be able to fit onto the table which i chose. But the problem now is that after the addition of the Playstation 3, its getting a little squeezy and cluttered. Ive always imagined having a personal space of my own, something of a sanctuary that i would spent most of my time on when im at home, be it work or play.

Squeezy huh? Just a small table in one corner of the room. Its cosy, but i dont feel the warmth to the space that was created for the computer. There is no personality to it. Maybe its because of the walls? or the labyrinth of wires behind the tables? Nonetheless, you can see both my CPU and the Playstation 3 on the table. The monitor is shared between the computer and the console. Thankfully, the LG widescreen display has 2 video inputs. A VGA and a DVI. It would be better if i had 2 DVI’s though but i had to sacrifice the one DVI for the console and resorted to VGA connection for my computer. Besides i cant see the difference in visual quality between an analog and digital connections. My 5.1 surround set up is still going strong. By now, it would have undergone at least 3 generations of DIY computers and its still very much useful to me. Id never sell the set. Its extremely rare these days.

When the console is on, i can switch the visual inputs of the LCD to display whatever is being displayed from the console. I have the HDMI to DVI cable and its pretty nifty. The visuals that appeared are bright and gorgeous looking, thanks to the LG’s high contrast ratios LCD monitor.

Its only a 20 inch monitor, but im more than glad because at least its HD Ready. Most games for the PS3 are set at 720P and a 20inch monitor is sufficient to support that.

You can see that the Playstation 3 is a behemoth. However, its extremely quiet, as in ultra silent. Im suprised at that especially when such a powerful console is able to cool the processor without generating fan noise. Despite playing for hours on the console, it is still silent, very very silent. And stable too. Kudos for Sony in designing such an efficient console.

OK so now im going to switch to PS3 fanboy mode. Bear with me on this one but i think these ads are pretty cool. You can view the rest at http://www.playb3yond.com/

Scary games

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on March 20, 2008 by mdjasrie

Scary games are a no no for me. Games that are meant to scare, be it ghostly, monster, or all things supernatural encounters are a complete no no for me. I just cant stand playing scary games. I have a weak heart in playing those. Seriously.

I dunno why, but i have this really deep fear of playing such video games. I get scared real easily. Its slightly different when it comes to watching than to playing it. I can pretty much stomach scary movies, but interaction with a scary environment or locale, which in this case, a video game is a completely frightening experience for me. Its too intense, too real for me. Take shooter games for example.

Shooter games involving killing supernatural beings in dark alleys and hard to spot areas are something that i just cant take it. I get freaked out easily. The worst encounters are when you hear something from a distance, and you know that its coming for you sooner or later and before you know it, it pounces behind you. Im telling you, i can literally jump out of my seat while playing it. Dont talk about jumping from my seat, i can immediately just quit the game and not think about it for a long time.

Call me a coward or a weakling but scary games are not my kind of entertainment. I can take intense shooters and action, maybe a little bit of thriller action, but when it comes to the supernatural, ill gladly pass the game. Even if it comes to a point that it became the “game of the year” at most ill have someone to play it for me and ill just watch, or ill just invite my friend over and play it multiplayer splitscreen coop mode.

oh by the way, i have a couple of friends who tells really lame jokes and riddles. one of them told so many over the past month, but this is one is quite recent and should be quite common.

so here it is:

red bean pau and man tou both went to watch a movie. Red bean pau cry during a sad scene but man tou didnt. Why?

Ans: Because man tou got no “feeling”!!! (Filling) Got it?

Utada Hikaru’s Heart Station Album Out!!!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on March 19, 2008 by mdjasrie

Utada’s latest album, “Heart Station” is officially out!!

The album features a total of 13 tracks, including a bonus track “Flavor of Life”. There are 6 new never before heard titles and 7 songs featured in past single releases, such as “Beautiful World“, “Kiss & Cry” and “Heart Station“.

I have had the opportunity to preview the album and i must say, this has to be another mega hit album for Utada. No doubt this is gonna be a bestselling album for weeks to come. The tune of “Heart Station” is addicting and fresh, while Beautiful World reminds of Eva 1.0 vividly, a fitting song for one of the greatest anime remakes in history.

The intro track, “Fight the Blues” truly shows Utada’s strong character and her unique songwriting skills. You can listen to a preview by clicking here.

After listening to her latest album, it is ensured that Utada has not lost any of her music writing skills and that she is able to keep her songs fresh, robust and flexible. Being able to sing songs beyond her comfortable genre of music types shows that she is not afraid to set new standards for herself.

Want to listen to more of Utada’s latest tracks? Well i can only release one more for preview and that would be…… gosh all of them are great tracks… i cant seem to choose…. oh well ill let you guys preview this track called “Prisoner of Love

Click the above link to listen to the preview, but promise me that you will purchase her album if you like it. It should be available locally in Singapore real soon, so just be patient!

Kiss

L’Arc-en-Ciel’ latest album, “Kiss” is already available in local stores, such as HMV. I bought the cheapest of the 3 editions (im cash strapped ok!?) and almost all the tracks are fantastic. I previously downloaded the entire album before buying it, and it was quite good so i just had to give my 2 cents to support the group.

The latest album features hit singles such as “My Heart Draws a Dream” “Seventh Heaven” and “Daybreak’s Bell“, which is a feature song for Gundam 00 Anime.

As for the other tracks, they were good too, but somehow i still like the previous album more than this one. Nonetheless, Daybreak’s Bell and My Heart Draws a Dream has an addictive tune to it and fans of this band should check this album out.

Now this is something that i just discovered too. Apparently, the band’s upcoming single “Drink it Down” is featured in another video game, Devil May Cry 4. Isnt that great!? What a perfect match for the band’s rock tunes to the bloodthirsty game. The single is slated to release on April 2 2008. I cant wait to get my hands on that game. Ive already ordered it through play-asia.com and it should arrive next week or so. Since ive completed Folklore and about to finish Uncharted Drakes Fortune, its about time to find a good game to play on my new toy.

Folklore Complete!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on March 15, 2008 by mdjasrie

Folklore, or the original Japanese title, Folksoul is an action rpg game for the PS3. I just completed the game and it was fun throughout. Graphics were gorgeous and the gameplay fresh and original. Though the story was a little bit lacklustre, the characters in the story were strong and unique. You get to play both characters from opposing point of views, Ellen and Keats. The best thing about this game is definitely the boss fights. There are several boss encounters throughout the game, at least one in each of the 7 chapters. The boss fights are truly interesting, requiring brains and strategy, coupled with your arsenal of collected folks, creatures of the netherworld which the characters fight for you after absorbing their souls. Boss fights are really fun and it does not involve button mashing. Instead a calm and patient approach to fighting the bosses in different phases is essential in the character’s survival. Anyone owning a PS3 should definitely try out this game.

The most surprising aspect of the game is the theme song. It was none other than Nephilim by Abingdon Boys School. It was a total surprise for me when I was browsing through the credits at the back of the booklet. When the end credits rolled, the song played and it was amazing. You can listen to the sample here.

If you wanna watch the game trailer, its below.

My bank acct has never gone so low…. ever!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on March 2, 2008 by mdjasrie

So last week i finally bought a PS3. Sorry about the delay in updates guys. Its just that ive been playing several games and demos, trying out its online content and its multimedia features, watching blu ray movies in the past week that i just hadnt the time to update!

Well its official, my bank acct has been blown, what with 11 bucks left, after spending 700 bucks on the consoles, some accessories and a couple of games, it was all worth it. I bought Tom Clancy Rainbow Six: Vegas and Folk lore as my first 2 games to be played on the new generation console. Everything looks fantastic, from the design and quietness of the console, to the oustanding graphics, its multimedia features and best of all, Blu Ray! Not to mention its online content too. Ive played several demo games, including Devil May Cry 4, Uncharted, Drake’s Fortune, Burnout Paradise and Ratchet and Clank, Tools of Destruction. All or which are fantastic and it gets me itching to get those games and try it out. The most outstanding, has gotta be Ratchet and Clank. It has one of the most visually stunning graphics ever so far on the PS3. Not forgetting Uncharted, Drake’s Fortune bursting with next gen graphics and smooth action gameplay.
