Gregorian Masters of Chant VI

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on July 31, 2008 by mdjasrie

The latest album in the long series of Gregorian chants have finally been released. It caught me off guard, but when i saw this on my local cd stores, i immediately bought it.

Greogoran Masters of Chant VI features popular hit titles that have been given the gregorian treatment, such as ‘Mad World‘ by Tear for Fears, ‘One of Us‘ by Joan Osbourne, ‘Fix You‘ by Coldplay. The following below is the complete tracklist.

  1. “Guide Me God” (Sinéad O’Connor)
  2. Miracle of Love” (Eurythmics)
  3. Dreams” (Fleetwood Mac)
  4. “The Circle”
  5. Mad World” (Tears for Fears)
  6. Mercy Street” (Peter Gabriel)
  7. “Believe in Me” (Lenny Kravitz)
  8. One of Us” (Joan Osbourne)
  9. Who Wants to Live Forever” (Queen)
  10. Crying in the Rain” (The Everly Brothers)
  11. Greensleeves” (Traditional)
  12. Jóga” (Björk)
  13. “The Time Has Come”
  14. Fix You” (Coldplay)

As with the previous gregorian installments, this is again a fantastic and great album that they have released. Fresh and contemporary yet with an authentic gregorian tune to it, this is a must have album for new age, chants lovers. Not only they managed to recompose the arrangement of the songs in a totally different way that really suits the gregorian theme, and what better way to connect to contemporary audiences than using modern instruments and digital arrangements.

Greogorian VI is a great improvement from the previous album, which in my opinion, was the weakest of the lost. There werent any really good selections of music and the arrangements were rather bland and constant throughout. This latest one however is a great improvement.

My computer’s bouts of flu.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on July 27, 2008 by mdjasrie

I didnt really had a great weekend. I had to spend an entire day fixing up my computer that got crashed for some unknown reason. I couldnt reinstall windows itself and i had to go down to Sim Lim to get experts to do the job for me.

Its all alright now. As a matter of fact, my computer feels like brand new, considering i installed Vista along with an additional 2GB of ram, making it 4GB in total. Running vista, smooth as butter. I also bought a 2.5 inch 160GB hard disk for my PS3. Total damage yesterday was almost 150 dollars. But it was necessary and in due time anyway. Ive always wanted to upgrade my PS3′s hard drive capacity and since i was at Sim Lim fixing my computer, i bought one on that day too.

So with Vista, i must say its a feature packed, heavy laden piece of OS. Lots of new features and stuff i need to learn. Im just about getting used to the interface and how things work in general. In the coming weeks, i’ll slowly learn the more intricate areas of the OS. But it feels stable so far. It has to feel stable, after downloading over 100 updates within hours of installation, just to fix the OS.

So with Vista, i managed to use Direct X 10 for games. Currently the only game i have that utilizes Direct X 10 is Assassin’s Creed, but ive yet to play thoroughly to see any differences. I did however, downloaded Futuremark’s latest benchmark tool, 3D Mark Vantage. It is the latest benchmark by Futuremark to use Direct X 10 features in their benchmark tests.

It was a near total disaster for my graphics card, the ATI Radeon 3850. The graphics tests were a slaughter. The benchmark was merciless. Averaging around 10 fps throughout the graphics tests, and attaining a mere 3400 in the overall score. It was depressing to say the least. But still, the graphics used during the tests was a notch above the previous one. Alot of incredible postprocessing effects were used. I particularly like the sci fi test called, New Calico. It was dead gorgeous, but a living nightmare for my graphics card. Just take a look at all these screenies to see what i mean. Hyper
realistic.

Applying my success principle No. 1

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on July 25, 2008 by mdjasrie

So i came across this book and it was kinda interesting. It is a self help book, similar to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. The 7 Habits books was a great help and it helped it achieve my goals set out in the short term. But lately i have been deviating from my principles and life wasnt just what it used to. I feel directionless of late.

So now after having bought The Success Principles for Teens, i decided that its high time that i should take control of my life once more. This book is written by Jack Canfield, the author popular for the Chicken Soup series and Kent Healy. It basically highlights the various principles that successful people apply in their lives. I havent finished reading it, rather, i just completed the first principle in the book, and that is:

TAKE 100% RESPONSIBILITY OF YOUR LIFE

This principle basically teaches you and make you realise that the action you take will completely affect the outcome and that no one, but you have control over your own action. The desired outcome that you want to achieve, lies 100% in your actions. In other words, if you want to achieve something, you must have the mentality that you must take 100% responsiblity of your actions, and ultimately your life. The principle also gives examples on why people dont succeed in achieving the things they wanted. The main reasons would be, that they blame on everything else except himself when things dont go their way. People have that mentality that they cant do it, or its just how it is with the person.

I had my first taste in achieving the desired outcome when i started applying this first principle at work. It was also rather significant for me, because if i hadnt take the correct action, it might be quite disastrous for me. And when i say disastrous, it really mean disastrous. For if i were to choose not to do anything about it, i have compromised the safety of my men. It was hardwork trying to get things right on my own for the first time, without external help, but it finally paid it off, and now i am relieved that everything went well. It wasnt the smoothest of journey to achieve the desired outcome, but at least my conscience is clear now, and i can breathe easy.

The first principle definitely paved the way to realising the fact that it helps. No matter how small the action you take, it might have a big and lasting impact in you and other people around you.

Games to look out for: Mirror’s Edge

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on July 22, 2008 by mdjasrie

There are many games that are about to be released in this year’s holiday season, and no doubt ill be broke by then. However there is one particular game that im keeping a very close eye on. Its called Mirror’s Edge.

Its an action game, played in a first person view. It has a mix of shooting, acrobats, and unarmed fighting all mixed in. So what is the game all about?

“In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed and now you are being hunted. You are a Runner called Faith – and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story.

Mirror’s Edge™ delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith’s world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous. Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city, you will learn how to run.”

Just take a look at the trailers below:

When i first downloaded the trailer off the PSN in all its HD glory, i was stunned with the clean and vibrant graphics of the game. They even claimed that the trailer was 100% in game footage. I didnt believe it at first. It was almost too realistic and clean. No way this is gonna be in game footage. But apparently it is. Watching it on youtube wouldnt do justice. You have got to see the HD version of the clip to believe that this might be another title worth checking out. Not just about the graphics, but the somewhat unique gameplay experience and probably knowing more about the characters’ story as well as the world they live in.

I just hope that this would not be a flop in the making. Judging from the quality of the trailers they have been releasing, its probably safe to say that the developers are taking this project seriously and trying hard to appeal to the gamers to try something unique and innovative.

Haagen Dazs Cafe

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on July 21, 2008 by mdjasrie

I dont usually go to such high end cafes that sells high end ice creams. I do eat them at home occasionally by buying those ice cream tubs. But going to a cafe and splurging my money on deserts? Not really my cup of tea. Yesterday was an exception.

I was sick last weekend, down with a fever the night before but was ok during the day. I had this incredible urge to eat something sweet, like a cakes or ice creams. I was outside at the time with a friend of mine. I was merely following him at the time since i had nothing to do at home, and despite being sick, i went ahead anyway.

Like I said, i had this incredible urge to take in something sweet. It was like none i ever felt before. We went past haagen dazs cafe and i asked myself, why not? Just splurge a little. I deserve it anyway. I need the time to enjoy myself for once. I was feeling rather generous at that time too.

So we sat down and began to browse through the menu. Everything looks good! The ice creams, and the desert sets were really presentable. I felt like trying out everything! But the costs was way up high in the sky. But like i said i was feeling rather generous at the time, so it didnt really occured to me to really give some consideration about the price of some of those deserts before ordering.

I ordered this really nice desert set. I cant remember the name, nor do i have any pictures taken, but it was a belgian waffle with maple syrup and 2 scoops of ice cream of your choice with fresh whip cream. I ordered cookies and cream and macadamia nuts ice cream as my 2 choices. It looks nice from the pictures, and i thought, well, maybe its just ordinary tasting waffle. After all its the ice cream that is the selling point, why else would i be in a Haagen Dazs cafe right? Right?

Wrong!

First, the presentation. It was done quite well. 1and a half small-sized freshly made belgian waffle, crispy and brown on the outside and buttery and soft on the inside. Maple syrup poured over them and onto the the rest of the plate. Very generous serving of maple syrup mind you, but not too much to drown the waffle. Fresh whipped cream on 4 corners of the waffle, light and fluffy and of course not to mention 2 scoops of the ice cream by the side.

So on to the taste. I cut a small portion of the waffle with the knife. I then swiped the cut waffle across the plate where all the maple syrup goodness are. Then i scooped a small portion of the cookies and cream ice cream with the fork and laid it on top of the waffle. I took it all in. It made my day. It totally made my day. That first bite was enough to blow me away. From the creamy texture of the ice cream, to the sweetness of the maple syrup and the soft butter sweet taste of the belgian waffle, it was like a perfect storm waiting to happen in your mouth. When all these 3 fine, high quality ingredients come together, i had totally no idea, that it would taste that good. Each of the ingredient’s taste was perfectly balanced, none too empowering, but really compliments each other. The maple syrup, adds a richer creamy taste to the ice cream, while the ice cream adds an added flavor to the already delicious waffle.

Im really telling you man, of all the good deserts ive tasted, this has got to be the best cafe experience i ever had. In fact, i had to constantly remind myself to take it slow while eating and not just gobble down the 18 bucks desert. Yes the desert costed 18 bucks and I had it all to myself. 18 freaking bucks!!

My friend had a banana split which costed the same, and while he wasnt really craving for the desert, he finished it through and through and told me it was one of the better banana splits he tasted. I was sold on my desert and thinking it was once in a while kinda thing, i paid and signed for everything.

Total damage: SGD 45.00, after factoring all the taxes and everything.

Taste: Priceless

For that price mentioned, i could treat myself and my parents to Swensons, it costs about the same. What i paid for was the price of deserts, during an afternoon high tea session, out of sheer craving for something sweet. Our high tea session was much more expensive than our lunch that we had before at a hawker center which costed less than 10 bucks.

Combining lunch and dinner costs for the day, the haagen dazs cafe session was still much more expensive.

The next time im going to the cafe again, it has to be the belgian waffles again, hands down.

Future MRT of Singapore

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on July 21, 2008 by mdjasrie

There have been a lot of digging around Singapore in the past 10 years or so. With the construction of the Circle Line underway, and scheduled to open in 2010 and beyond, it would be the world’s longest fully automated train network. Over 30 stations that encircles the downtown area of the country, it is an ambitious project, first envisioned in the 80s. However im not talking about just the circle line.

The recent announcement of the Bukit Timah Line was made a few weeks ago would add an additional 12 stations to the overall grand plan of the Downtown line of 33 stations. This would connect commuters from Bukit Panjang areas to the downtown areas much quicker than the present network. It would be completed in 2015 and beyond.

Now. SMRT has just revealed a new tentative map of the future MRT network (click to enlarge) that might be constructed in the future, possibly in 2020 and beyond. Ill be in my 40s by then heh! It sure looks packed indeed, covering nearly every area of Singapore. I still remember the days where there were only the North-South Lines and the East West Lines. No Woodlands lines, connecting Yishun to Choa Chu Kang, no Changi Airport or Expo and certainly no North-East line. By observing the gray lines on the map, you can actually see the possible expansion to the already crowded MRT network. Nothing is solid yet, as LTA is still studying the land usage in the future and the feasibility of such new lines.

New Blog Url

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on July 21, 2008 by mdjasrie

Noticed anything different on my blog recently? Well… its the url of course! After months of deciding whether to purchase a domain through wordpress.com, i have finally made up my mind. For 15 bucks a year, which is pretty decent, especially for someone who knows next to nothing about hostings, and domains etc, i get my own url for my blog.

There will be no more .wordpress.com anymore. Its now unchartedfutures.com. My very own website.

So please, if anyone has a link to my blog, be sure to update you links, even if you dont, it will still be directed to the new address.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Complete!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on July 20, 2008 by mdjasrie

One of the most anticipated titles of the year for the PS3, and surely the game that will go down in the history of video games has finally been completed. Yes i have completed the game after a period of absence and i must say, it was one helluva journey, especially towards the ending.

If i were to summarize this game in one sentence it would be this: Every moment of the game from the beginning to the end, is the epitome of perfection.

It’s is really hard to find a flaw in the game, everything looks, feels and plays perfect. You can really feel and appreciate the amount of work that goes into this game. Every single person that is involved in this project, i must give credit to them. Im amazed that some games are true works of art. They are not just video games, they are an artform by itself. And there is little to none out there other than Metal Gear Solid 4, Guns of the Patriots, that shows this.

I shall not say much more about this game, other than the fact that if you own a PS3, this is one of the flagship titles that you must own and display proudly. Also realize the fact that you have played a small part in the history of video games, and that is, completing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

I have a small bonus to share with all of you who are reading this. Below are 2 music clips from the game itself. The first, is the opening theme of Metal Gear Solid 4, while the other is Jackie Presti Love Theme. Click below to listen to them. The first clip is a fitting theme for an ending, while the second clip is hauntingly beautiful.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Opening Theme.

Jackie Presti Love Theme.

The lyrics to the love theme in English. The original language is in Hebrew. Like i said, hauntingly beautiful.

Closing my eyes to the sound of gunfire
Uttering a roar
In a flash I am switched into despair
Everything for the one who lives inside the nightmare
Missing from the bottom of my heart

Wishing the world that ran out of tears
The heart is already dead
The hope
Missing until it hurts

Jackass…

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on July 13, 2008 by mdjasrie

It’s been a hectic, not one but three weeks so far. Ive burned all my past 3 weekends and im praying so hard that this would be over soon.

Normally, i dont like to dwell on the negative stuff for too long, but i had no where to vent it on and discuss about it. When someone makes me angry, and i talk about it, it means that, that someone is really pissing me off. Im serious, you dont see me talking about someone who has just pissed me off over trivial stuff. This is big. Its the kind of personality that i hate the most.

like i said, its been a bad 3 weeks so far, but the final week has been the worst. A complete egoistic jackass. The worst part is that this is not the end. Im definitely gonna see more of him and his attitude in the future. Im gonna see his face everyday, and he is so gonna find ways to fault me over small stuff. He is the perfect person to call him a jackass. I cannot risk writing about him here and because of that, i still cant release this ball of anger within me.

My spirit is at an all time low right now and i only hope things will get better soon. i have to find ways to let it go and move on from what has transpired. Can someone please tell me, your secret method in releasing all these destructive emotions out from you?
